Your DNA genealogy and the Roman empire......

Lets say one day you decide to do your DNA to see where your ancestry comes from, Lo and behold the results come back and it states that you have, lets say 12% Italian, but how is that possible my ancestors are from France,England, or even Egypt.

Well do I have a surprise for you.    Its actually not that far fetched for your DNA to show Italian because from about 753 b.c. to 1453 a.d. the Roman empire Conquered and propagated an estimated 70 million people  21% of the worlds population, and to think that no intermarrying or the like didn't happen is preposterous.

At its zenith, the Roman Empire included these today's countries and territories: most of Europe (England, Wales, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Gibraltar, Romania, Moldova, Ukraine), coastal northern Africa (Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Egypt), the Balkans (Albania, Greece, Hungary, Bosnia, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Turkey), the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, Asia Minor, and some parts of Mesopotamia and the Middle East (Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Israel).

As genealogy goes we are not shocked by any DNA results that happen to pop up, Its a part of finding who and where you come from and realizing we as a human race are all intertwined and connected.

Vikings in our historical genealogy

The Vikings were Norwegians, Swedes and Danes, men and women who were usually farmers, traders, blacksmiths, and craftsmen.

From A.D. 793 to 1066, Vikings raided, traded, challenged, conquered and settled in many lands,
Including but not limited to;
Ireland, Scotland, England, France, and many parts of the Mediterranean.

Most people assume or have been told that they(vikings) were murderous raging heathens, but that just isn't true.

They were advanced in law making, Equal rights for women, battle tactics, ship building and all around sea fairing.

They even prided themselves on cleanliness and grooming.
Being some of the most clean peoples of their time period.

GET THIS ITS SHOCKER TIME
Red Hair Reveal

According to Professor Donna Heddle, director of the University of the Highlands and Islands' Centre for Nordic Studies, Argues that the perception that the Norse were blond is nothing more than a prevalent myth.

If you look at were red hair occurs you can almost map it to viking trade routes.

So remember if you have any red hair your ancestors might have been vikings.

A family tree is just the beginning....

Being a genealogist isn't just about making family trees or telling someone "Hey, You're related to Abraham Lincoln".
Being a genealogist is about being able to take someone on a journey through history, through not only their life, but through the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of people that made their existence possible.
Being a genealogist isn't just a job its a calling like a call to Arms, to take up your sword and shield and to battle for the forgotten ancestors among us.
We connect family together and make smiles happen.
